North Korea to send 100 000 soldiers to fight in Ukraine alongside Russian troops?

The past few days, many articles and social media posts shared the news according to which North Korea "offers" to send 100 000 soldiers to Ukraine to support Russian troops.

The vocabulary used in the titles of these posts or articles is very clear: NK "offers" just as if the statement was an official stance taken by North Korean authorities.

In fact, not surprisingly, it is not.

Several articles published in English and in French, first seen on Yahoo News and Business Insider, appear as a paid press release that has not been verified so much.

Indeed, when looking a bit deeper into the context of the apparent official position, the source is no more than a sentence pronounced by defense pundit Igor Korotchenko on Russian TV channel (controlled by the State):

"There are repor

ts that 100,000 North Korean volunteers are prepared to come and take part in the conflict."

That is the only "source" of this very breaking news that has been reported, a few hours later, in the multiple legitimate International media outlets (The Independent, The Express for examples).

A few additional articles have been mentioning this fact prior to the TV statement. Indeed, an article of Regnum mentioned it on August 2, and a few other posts promoted this narrative on Telegram.

So far, North Korea (or any other official source) has not confirmed the offer and the sources of the articles have not given any other valuable evidence supporting the statement.
